Leaving what does not concern you…Zafar Usmani

I‘la’ al-Sunan:

“Leaving what does not concern you…”

***

‘Allama Zafar Usmani (Allah have mercy on him) comments on the hadith, “From the excellence of a person’s Islam is leaving what does not concern him:”[1] “…indicates the way to attain ihsan mentioned in the hadith of Jibril by his saying (upon him be peace): ‘to worship Allah as though you see him and even though you do not see Him, He sees you’. Indeed, the excellence of Islam is attaining ihsan. Thus, whoever recalls in his heart that Allah (Most High) observes all actions of his servants, is aware of everything he says and knows fully well all his states, he will speak and do less except in what concerns him. The hadith is from the comprehensive speech of the Prophet and is the basis of the pure and lofty way of the Sufis.’”[2]

Notes:

[1] One should leave what does not befit him.[3]

[2] One should leave what is not important.[4]

[3] One should leave what does not have added value for the Hereafter.[5]

[4] excellence (ihsan) is measured according to the adherence to Allah’s commands and prohibitions.[6]

[5] Leaving what does not concern one’s salvation can be achieved by bringing the presence of Allah into one’s heart to shape and control one’s behaviour.
