Ramadan: “What makes the month Special…”

Ramadan:

“What makes the Month Special…”

***

The blessed month of Ramadan is special and unique. Allah has distinguished it from all other months in numerous ways. Some of these include:

[1] Revelation of the Qur’an: The Qur’an was revealed as guidance for all affairs of life as well as a criterion to be taken in every aspect and facet of living life from praying to politics.

{شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدىً لِلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ }

{Ramadan is the month in which we revealed the Qur’an; a guidance for humankind and a clear proof of guidance as well as a criterion}.[1]

{Indeed, we have revealed it (the Qur’an) in the Night of al-Qadr}.[2]

[2] The Night of al-Qadr is better than 1000 months: the Night of al-Qadr was that night in which the noble Qur’an was sent down and is a cosmic night more valuable than a lifetimes worth of worship.

{The Night of al-Qadr is better than a thousand months…}[3]

  • Abu Hurayrah: “There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month which Allah has enjoined you to fast, during which the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed and the rebellious devils are chained up. In it there is a night which is better than a thousand months and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.[4]

  • All of one’s previous sins will be forgiven for striving in devotion within this night: Abu Hurayrah: “Whoever spends the night of al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, will be forgiven his previous sins.”[5]

[3] Ramadan is a means to total forgiveness: sincere adherence to the fast as well as a genuine hope of Allah’s reward will guarantee pardon of previous sins:

  • Abu Hurayrah: “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven and “Whoever spends the nights of Ramadan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven”.[6]

[4] The doors of mercy are open and the devils chained up: The month of Ramadan is a month enveloped in Divine mercy. Allah has also chained up the devils and blocked anything external hindrance to the believer in gaining optimum benefit from the fast.

  • Abu Hurayrah: “When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed and the devils are chained up.[7]

And with Allah is all success.
