Q & A Wudu' and Purity

Q & A: “Wudu and touching Qur’an translations…”

Q. whether wudu’ is required to touch and read English Qur’an translations without the Arabic.

In the Hanafi compendium of legal discussions and edicts al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya it states:

“If the Qur’an is written down in Persian it is disliked to touch it according to Abu Hanifa and the two [Imams Abu Yusuf and al-Shaybani] which is the most correct understanding. In al-Khulasa it has the same…”[1]

Therefore, if the Qur’an translation is English or any other language, it ought not to be touched without the ritual ablution (wudu’).

And Allah knows best.
