Q & A Wudu' and Purity

Q & A: “Miswak and blood…”

MISWAK AND BLOOD

Q. I used a miswak and saw blood on it. Do i have to repeat wudu?

A.

In the al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya it states the following:

“If a person with wudu’ bites down on something and sees traces of blood on it or uses a miswak and sees traces of blood on it, his wudu’ will not be invalidated as long as it does not flow. The same is mentioned in al-Zahiriyya…”[1]

المتوضي اذ غض شيأ فوجد فيــه اثر الدم أو استاك بسواك فوجد فيه اثر الدم لم ينقض ما لم يعرف السيــلان كذا في الظهيريـة…

Thus, the mere visibility of blood does not necessarily invalidate the wudu’ and so it will not have to be repeated.

Using the Miswak is a sunna and recommended[2] and hence fears of blood traces should not discourage one from using it.

And Allah knows best.
