Imam al-Haytami’s summary description of Ahl al-Sunna

The noble Imam, Shafi`ite hadith master and jurist of his time (d. 974/1567) al-Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haythami describes in his al-Fatawa al-Hadithiyya, vol.1, p.199:

English:

“The people of unwarranted religious innovations (ahl al-bida`) are those who oppose what the Ahl al-Sunna wa ‘l-Jama`a are upon and they are the followers of Shaykh Abu’l-Hasan al-Ash`ari and Abu ‘l-Mansur al-Maturidi – the two Imams of Ahl al-Sunna. Included amongst the people of unwarranted religious innovations are those who newly introduce a matter for which the Sacred Law does not attest to…”

May Allah keep us amongst the Ahl al-Sunna wa ‘l-Jama`a.

Amin.

And Allah knows best.
